Excel export will not open in Word without workaround

Lemmy_Caution

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel So, If I save an Excel document as Tab delimited text (.TXT) and try to open it from Word, I get a warning asking if I want to open it in Excel. If I select No (or Cancel as it's my only choice) the file won't open in Word.

I have to drag the file to my Word icon in the dock in order to open the file.

I can't even fathom how stupid this is.

Hi Lemmy,

It's just Word's way of alerting you that perhaps you made a mistake,
because most of the time it's normal to open a file in the application
that created it. Generally, people open tab delimited files in Exel, not
Word.

To change Word's File > Open behavior just change the Enable pop-up in
the File > Open dialog to Text Files or All Files. That way you assume
control and Word won't try to help you out with alerts about the file
type. There are more settings concerning File operations in Word's
preferences. It's worth a trip to Word's preference pane to explore your
options.
