Excel If Then Question

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right group so if it's not please redirect
me. My question is with Excel and its if/then statements. What
should be typed if I want the IF portion to be any character. That is
=IF(A1=WHAT, "abc",""). The WHAT portion is where I'm confused. Is
there such a way to qualify that portion with anything typed.
