Excel not Auto calculating

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Ok I am totally new to this support forum so forgive me if I am doing this incorrectly. My husband usually handles the problems and this even has him stumped.

My problem is that I have only had the computer for a couple of months. Excel has worked fine.

But just yesterday excel started not auto calculating. It is driving me crazy. I have tried to open a new spreadsheet and it will not calculate even though the formula is there.

It is like I have switched something to manual by mistake.
Please help

Go to Excel Preferences. Select the calculation tab, and make sure Auto is
checked.
