EXCEL - problem removing known password

I have an excel file that I know the password for and I cannot remove it. The
password is required to open the file. The problem is that the advanced
button is greyed out and I cannot remove the password. How do I get around
this problem? I am using Excel 2003.

Delete the Password and save.

or Remove Password.

If I could - I would ! I did not make the original message clear enough. The
current password is greyed out in addition to the advanced button being
greyed out - and I can't delete it.

If the Password doesn't Delete(press Del key) with the "********"
highlighted. I would try Help Detect and Repair next.
