Hello I have several data and charts that i want in a powerpoint presentation
without the copy command because it distorts the information. how could this
be done?

I tried copying, edit, object etc....since it was used as a copy. my boss
does not want a copy....the words get smushed and stretched. i dont know any
other way.

So, did you try Edit/Paste Special/Paste Link or not?

If your boss doesn't want a copy, then I guess he wants a link.

The other option is, figure out why the text is distorted -- because it
shouldn't be. If you're using a wide screen, we've seen reports of chart
fonts being distorted on them. If that's the case, update your video drivers.

In addition to Echo's suggestion, you could use Insert Object from
File. It helps to first save the appropriate work/chartsheet as a
separate workbook so that you only embed a single sheet workbook
rather than the entire workbook with each copy and paste.

And doing that and then using copy and paste should also work fine
with no distortion.

franklin,
In addition to Echo's other suggestions, try holding down the Shift
key in Excel and the Copy option on menu changes to Copy as Picture,
then choose Printer or Screen resolution and then paste into PPT as a
picture. No data in the object since it is actually now a picture.

How about Edit/Paste Special/Paste Link?

I tried this but the data appears lighter. I think as a picture will work. I
still have to stretch the picture.

You're welcome, Franklin, but frankly, if you'd be a bit more forthcoming
with information -- what exactly you *are* doing and what exactly about it
isn't working -- we might actually be able to come up with a solution that
works for you.

"It ain't going to fly" tells us nothing except it doesn't work for you. It
doesn't tell us why it doesn't work, and since we can't see your computer
screen, we're pretty much in the dark at this point.

I cant say to my boss that I copied linked, copied paste, or copy embed. She
said it will not fly. Her reasoning is the copy command distorts the data
when stretched to size in PowerPoint. I cant use copy. What I am looking for
is if there is another way to import or transfer exact way the data and
charts without using copy. To me copy paste or copy linked works fine BUT if
I am asked in what way did I transfer the data, I cant say I copied it into
PowerPoint.

And copy it as a picture at printer resolution and not screen
resolution.

Okay, thank you. I don't agree at all with your boss, but I guess I'll just
be glad I'm not working for her. <VBG> Since you can't just educate her
about proper ways to copy-paste or paste special to avoid distortion, I
guess you'll need to use Insert/Object/Create from File.

You know, you might be able to talk to her about how Paste Special and
choosing Paste Link really isn't a true pasting function -- it's a linking
function, which seems to be what she wants. I mean, if you did an Edit/Paste
Special/Paste Link, you'd have to update the data in the actual Excel file,
and you could break the links to the Excel file by going to Edit/Links. So
it really isn't "pasted."
