exchange server not available

Running outlook 2003. when you start outlook, fails to login as 'exchange
server is not available'. but the exchange server is available! Ran a ping
on the exchange server while outlook tries to connect, it actually shuts
down the connection as outlook starts. any ideas?

It sounds like Outlook 2003 may be failing over TCP/IP. So, to confirm this:

1. Can <all> Outlook 2000/2002 clients connect?
2. Can any Outlook 2003 clients connect (at all)?
3. If the answer to question 1 is yes, can they still connect if you only
have TCP/IP in the binding order on the client?
