Export to Excel

How do I export a report from project to excel? Also, is it very time
consuming to format the report?

I have a similar question, need the best way to share my project (including
GANTT chart) with folks who don't have Project. One suggestion I heard was
to create an executable file? Any ideas appreciated.

Hi Richie,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I've just written my next article on this subject, which should be available
in the next week or so. If you can't wait, try File/Save As... and select
the File Type as an Excel Workbook. In the wizard select a New Map and
enter the fields you want to export. When finished, open the file in Excel.
There shouldn't be much in the way of formatting, though this depends on the
data and what you want to do with it.

You might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft Project in the
TechTrax ezine, particularly #34 when it's published, at this site:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thank you, very helpful. One more question - my client recommended creating
an executable. Any ideas what this is or how to accomplish? My understanding
is that it would be more than a picture - someone could actually manipulate
or scroll through the data?

No, Jen, I don't know how that's done. You could try the project viewer
from such software as produced for example by Housatonic HPV Solo 2007.
