Exporting PP XP to a .gif image - dots on slides

I know there is a known issue when saving a PP XP file as a .gif (the background is all polka dots). Other than switching to .jpg, does anyone have a workaround? Thanks!

The GIF format has only 256 colors. Some things can't be represented with
so few colors. Save the slides as PNG to get a good non-lossy image.

Katie,

The polka dot effect is probably because, as Sonia has said...gifs only
allow 256 colors.....so powerpoint has to decide what 256 colors to use. So
occasionally powerpoint will make up a color from 2 colors e.g. alternate
red and yellow dots make orange.
