Exporting timescaled data summed on a custom field

[need new ideas]

I want to add category values to the Text 1 field for each of my tasks and
then export timescaled data that is summed by the values in Text 1. If this
can be done, it is not straightforward. Does anyone know how I can do this?
Or is there another way to get a view that contains this data (other than
timescaled data):

number of work hours in category 1 by week
number of work hours in category 2 by week
etc...

Try grouping the Task Usage View by your custom field. I think however that
totals for timescaled data will only work in Project 2003. I don't think
2002 quite got that feature included .
