EXT function stuck on.

[Word challenged]

Please help
I have been typing ok all day and now when I click or use a direction key the monster selects a paragraph instead of letting me type. The EXT button is off and I've turned off everything that seems relevant in Tools>options>edit
Please answer in plain english. I really am challenged

A couple of possibilities... One is that you pressed the F8 key, which turns
Extended Selection on. Try pressing the Escape key, then tap an arrow key,
to see if that turns EXT off.

Another possibility... double-click EXT on the status bar to toggle it off.

Or, if I'm reading you correctly and EXT is "off" as you say, then it's
possible that one of your Shift keys is stuck. Try pressing Ctrl+Shift+Alt
simultaneously (both sides of the keyboard) several times to see if this
un-sticks the Shift key. Otherwise, try swapping a different keyboard.
