Extra addresses showing up

When I iniatiate a message in Outlook (Office 2003), and enter the first
letter of the name in the To: field, I get two different addresses
showing up for one person. The one address is in my Contact list, but I
cannot find the other address anywhere else, and it is incorrect. How
can I find where that address is stored, and how can I update it?

Use your down arrow key to select the bad address and press Delete.

That will do it, thanks, but I would still like to know where are they
coming from? There is more than one instance where a message has got
misdirected because I didn't notice the anomoly and I would like to
eliminate any others at the source if I could.

They are addresses to which you have tried to send mail in the past. When
Outlook resolves an address (i.e., it becomes underlined in the recipient
field), it gets placed in the Autocompletion cache. See this for a thorough
explanation: http://www.ingressor.com/autocompletetips.htm
