Fails to initialise

If anyone could help me I would be grateful

I am trying to install Office Ulitimate from disk on a computer running
Windows XP. The disks have not been installed on any other machine.

The installation apparently runs successfully but I am unable to start any
of the office programs - I get the error message "the application failed to
initialise properly." I have tried deleting and reinstalling it. What
should I try next?

Thanks

Have you tried running a maintenance installation? Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Microsoft Office->Change->Repair?

Thanks for the suggestion, which I hadn't tried. I have run the repair a
number of times but I am afraid it hasn't cured the problem. If you could
suggest anything else I would be grateful. Thanks again
