fax install

I have XP Professional & want to install the fax software.
All instructions either direct me to Add/Remove programs and then say look
for Windows Update in the menu -- which does not exist -- or tell me to
uninstall Outlook and reinsatll it. I can't do that either. This Dell was
an office computer given to me when my office went out of business. I don't
have the installation disks (product was added after purshase of the
computer).

Anyone able to walk me through -- if I don't have Windows Update in
Add/Remove?
I have found the Fax Console, but it's not active.
