Field issues

I have a template that has fill-in fields in the footer. When the template is opened, the prompts for the fill in fields come up. The issue is the prompts come up again when you print preview. How can I get this to stop? Also, the template is a protected form - if this makes a difference. The client I work for needs to have the flexibility of different text in the footer, but the security of the form being protected from margin changes. If there is a better way than fields in a protected form, please advise. Thanks!

protected form, please advise.In this case, I'd say use an ASK field (with a REF field to display the
input). This should only prompt when the document is printed
