Figures in Appendix

I need to have figures in my appendix. My appendix looks like:
Appendix A - bla bla bla
Figures need to look like: Figure A.1

I've made Heading6 my Appendix A, and linked it as such in numbering.
I've created a duplicate caption style called Caption (appx). All
figures in the appendix are Caption (appx) style.
I've created a new lable call App! Figure A.1.

When I use this caption label in the appendix, it changes the caption
labels in the main document. I can't seem to get both caption labels
working simultaneously.

Any ideas?

Secondly, is there a way to have my Heading 6 at the left side of my
document map, like heading 1?

How do I have Heading 6 appear the way I need it to in the table of
contents?

thanks.

Shauna's tutorial is what I used to set my numbering/captions up.

I did seem to resolve the problem, for some reason, but doing the opposite
of what she said. I all my figures use the same style, I didn't have any
problem using two different caption labels. Not sure why.

Actually, caption numbering is undependent of styles; instead, it
relies on Seq fields (you can press Alt+F9 to toggle display of the
field codes). In other words, once you've got the numbering correctly
setup, you can apply any style you like.

Is there any knowledge to the second part of the question, re: document
mapping?

No, you can't do anything about the document map, since it depends on
outline levels, which cannot be modified for the built-in heading
styles; if you look in the Paragraph dialog box, you'll se that the
outline levels of headings styles are greyed out.

But you can specify, as you create the TOC, that Heading 6 should
display as a top-level entry.

To modify an existing TOC: Press Alt+F9 to display field codes. You'll
see something like this: { TOC \o "1-3" \h }. Change the code to add
the \t switch: { TOC \o "1-3" \t "Heading 6,1" }. Press Alt+F9 again
to hide field codes and then press F9 to update the TOC field.

And if you don't want to edit the TOC code by hand, when you are setting up
the TOC intitially, go to TOC Options and replace the 6 beside Heading 6
with 1; Word will then create for you the field code Stefan has provided.
