File maintenance

Steve Scott

I have an Integrated Plan which has lots of sub-projects linked to it. I use
this file extensively and am constantly adding new projects to it and
removing complete projects. I would be very lost if this plan "broke".
From my access days, I was aware of the need to compact the database on a
regular basis and repair it if necessary...is there anything that should be
done to a MPP file on a regualr basis that has a similar purpose? Or is it
just a case of maintaining a regular backup.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The most import thing is to have a backup or more than one that you
regularly update. You should regularly open the finle and immediately
File/Save As... not the save button). You might like to look at what to do
if corruption is suspect: you could try the suggestions in FAQ Item: 43.
File Bloat? - Might be Corruption.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
