file saving in word causes error

Mark

Using Word 2003 Pro on a networked system, I cannot save/save as a file
without generating a fault in Word, upon which it must shut down, recover the
file, and send an error report to Microsoft. I have tried
uninstalling/reinstalling Office 2000 Pro, Office XP and XP Pro. Any
insights.

Mark.

1. Check Disabled items and enable any disabled found.
2. Delete/rename [normal.dot].
3. Delete contents of Temp Folders(2).

You may have insufficient rights on the disk/folder you are saving to.
The rights needed are not obvious, AFAIK due to the "failsafe" saving
strategy of MS Office.

-Make sure you have at least twice the amount of free space needed for
the document. (i.e. if your document will be 1 MB, you will need 2 MB
free when first saving, and 1 MB free beside the document when saving again)

-Set the needed access mode rights for the target location:
* If you are saving to a Windows storage (local hard disk or a Windows
server), make sure you have read, write and modify rights.
* If you are saving to Netware (Novell) storage, make sure you have
read, write, create, erase and modify rights.
* if you are saving to *nix based storage (including linux, xBSD and Mac
OS-X), make sure you have read, write and execute permission (should
work without execute permission, but I've found that to be unreliable on
OS-X).
