file type now wps ,cannot open it , please help !

For some reason , while setting up file sharing I inadvertently seem to have
changed the file type on some documents to WPS. Which means when I open them
all you see are a series of x and y's.I have tried to return them to their
original file format but to no avail. Can you please help ?

This extension is a Works format. Do they open when you go to file, open, files of
type and you scroll down to the Works choices?
