filename not updated

¿Is there a way to update automatically a field FILENAME
after saving the document?
In contrast, a field SAVEDATE is updated automatically.
I have Word 2002 and Windows XP. ¿May it be a problem with
the version?

In general, fields do not update automatically. They
require manual updates, which can be performed by
selecting the entire document (press CTRL+A) and then
pressing F9. You can, however, have fields update on
print. Make sure that "Update fields" is selected on the
Print tab of Tools>Options.

There are exceptions to the general rule about field
updates. For example, fields in headers and footers often
update automatically. This is true for the FILENAME field!
Also, choosing File>Print Preview triggers update of many
fields.
