Filtering doesn't work

I've scanned this board for other related postings, but
can't find what I need.

I have applied filters by subject, and by sender, and none
of my filters are applied. However, the lower left status
bar of the folders I am trying to have the filtered
messages sent to says "filter applied."

Outlook help, and the Microsoft sites are not in the
slightest helpful. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot
this issue? Thanks.

What kind of subjects and senders are you trying to filter and what
filtering criteria have you set up? If you give me specific examples I
can help you figure out what's wrong.
