I would like to suggest that when returning results back from the search box,
provide a way so that they can be sorted by date - either by date of
question, or date of last post.

Thanks,

J

Are you talking about results returned via the online user interface you are
using to access the newsgroup? Or are you talking about Access itself? If
the latter, you will need to clarify.

For your information, however, the text about your post being a suggestion
to Microsoft, and votes, etc., only applies for users who happen to be using
that same online user interface. Most of the people who answer questions
here, by the way, do not use the online interface, but use news reader
software and get the posts via a news server (Microsoft has a free news
server for the Microsoft-sponsored newsgroups: news.microsoft.com).

Consider using a newsreader, such as Windows Mail.

Actually, consider using a newsreader, rather than an email
application onto which imperfect support for newsgroups has been
bolted.

I use xNews, which is free and an excellent news reader -- entirely
designed to accomplish one task.

Combined news/email clients should be avoided, in my opinion, as
every one of them that I've ever seen was a very poor news reader
(in comparison to the features available in a dedicated news
reader).

(not to mention the fact that Windows Mail exists only on Vista and
later)

David,

First, I have WIndows Mail on XP so I am not sure where you got the
impression it was Vista and above. I do not use it but I have it.

Lastly, I actually prefer my mail and newsgroups in one place... less
windows to flip between, as at any given time I have a dozen open. Though I
will admit it does give me trouble reading the newsgroups every once in a
while.

Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail? They are two different things:

No, you can't install Windows Mail on XP.
The best solution for you is to upgrade both email programs to
Windows Live Mail, which installs on both Vista and XP.

I really don't see what the issue is. I have email open all day
long, but only read Usenet once a day. How opening a different app
for Usenet is more difficult than opening a different window in a
combined app eludes my imagination.

If your mail/news client opens too many windows, then I'd say that's
a design flaw and you should seek a better mail/news client.

I, for one, find Thunderbird infuriating in that regard. I would
really like to see a return to the multiple-document interface,
instead of this insane insistence on making child windows
indistinguishable from the parent window. But the Thunderbird team
is just following the lead of Outlook and Outlook Express (I
wouldn't know about Windows Mail as I don't run Vista, and never
will).

David,

Oops, you are correct... I have Windows Mail on y Vista machine and Windows
Live Mail on my XP machine and do often confuse the two eMail programs since
I don't use either.

I have my Mail program open all day as I am in my personal eMail and
business eMail all day (I am in and out of all all day long). So for me, I
prefer to have my newsgroup show up in the same place. I have one program
that handles two things. Then I have Access (usually two databases, one for
Newsgroup answers and the other I am working on), GSNotes, TimeCalendar,
Code Librarian, Internet Explorer, sometimes MSN Messenger (when someone
nudges me), sometimes Enterprise Manager (and lately sometimes is always).
SO, if I can cut back on one less flip to another window GREAT. That is why
I prefer SOMETHING handle more then one thing at a time.

I tried Thunderbird, had to do a qucik check, and yep, I removed it. Don't
remember why not but maybe I'll try it again, maybe not, who knows.
