I have a file that has an apostrphe at the beginning of every cell in the workbook. (don't ask me why)

I try to do a find and replace to delete them all, but I get excel says, cannot find matching data. what am I doing wrong? thanks.

The apostrophe used at the beginning of a cell's content is a formatting
attribute designating the content of the cell as a Text string, it isn't a
literal character. It's normally used so that content consisting strictly of
numbers (such as zip codes & ID numbers) won't be treated as values.

They shouldn't interfere with anything unless the content should actually be
a numerical value or should be a calculation.

Excellent, thanks Bob:

Of course I take it if I add to new cells that dont have the apostrophe that's ok

And you are sure that an apostrophe before an e mail address wont screw up my emailings? thanks.
