Finding a number in a text format.

Hi,

I have about 100 spread sheets that are in text format and when I am
trying to find any item numbers that are on the spreadsheets using the
find function, it does not find it. My question is what do I have to
do to be to look for a certain item number on the spread sheet and
have excel find it for me? I am prefrebly looking for a way where I
dont have to go to every spreadsheet and change something.

Thank you,
Mike

What are you going to do when you "find" this item number?

If it is to return fields that relate to this item number, then take a look at
the VLOOKUP function.

I am not looking to do anything with the number. I am just looking to
find the number. ctrl F...write the number down and have excel find
it. Also, since it's in text format, the vlookup function would also
not find it. There must be some kind of protection on these spread
sheets since I've written numbers in text formats on other spread
sheets and ctrl F did find those numbers. Please help.

If the sheet is protected, and the cell is locked, and the ability of the user
to select a locked cell is prohibited, then I do not know of any way to
<ctrl-F> and get to that cell. (Without unprotecting the sheet).

I assume you have "no format set" when doing the FIND.
