Fixed Cost vs Cost Resources

Alex Angas

Can someone please explain what the difference between these two is in
Project 2007? I've read the 'Overview of project cost information' article on
office.microsoft.com but still don't get it. Why would I use one over the
other?

Thanks for any help,

Alex.

Hi,

With Cost Resources, you can have totals per cost resource; with fixed costs
you don't have specific totals.
Hope this helps,

Hi Alex,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Fixed Costs are used for such things as overheads, contract prices, or
specific costs for materials like paint for a particular task. Whereas
Resource Costs are calculated by Project based on the hourly cost for the
use of a particular resource.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Sorry, Alex and Jan, I was working extensively with Project 2003 and was in
that mode when I commented :( Jan is correct as I was not thinking of the
new Resource type in Project 2007 of Cost Resources that you asked for.
