Fn+Alt+(code) doesn't work with Word 2003 Basic Edition

I have a new laptop computer and I've always used fn+alt+(code) as a shortcut
to international characters but now when I try to use it in Word (office
basic edition 2003) it doesn't work. Is there any setting or something to
fix this problem?
I know I can use ctrl+'(letter) but I really need to know how can I use
Fn+Alt+(code) .

If somebody can help me pleeeaseee! :)0(

PD:I have test this with notepad and it works is only with Word.

Hi ZG,

If these are Unicode values you can type the Unicode Hex value
and then Alt+X to convert the code to the character/symbol.
(See Insert=>Symbol) and select 'normal text' and you should
see the Unicode Hex values in that dialog for various characters.

The thing with the Unicode works, but my problem is with the fn+alt+code,
because I used it with my other laptop without problem and it worked.
Example: fn+alt+165

It doesn't work when I try to use it with Word in this laptop. I don't know
if I have to activate in some way the keypad or something but when I used
fn+alt+code in WordPad it works. The problem is with Word.

With a standard desktop keyboard the sequence is Alt+code on the numeric
keypad.
The "Fn" activates an alternate function for a key. Check the instructions
for your new laptop keyboard to verify which keys have alternate functions
for which you need to use the Fn key to obtain the sequence Alt+code on the
numeric keypad.

Yes, I've checked the keyboad instructions and is the same. I really don't
know what is the problem with Word. It just don't get the special characters
is like it doesn't see the "fn" button.

Only Windows or more specific your keyboard driver sees the Fn key. An
application should see only the alternate key function when you use the Fn
key. If the alternate functions do not work in other applications, you may
have a driver problem. If they do, you may a compatibility problem between
Word and the driver. I would check for an updated driver.

BTW. I was puzzled in your original post that you would have a keyboard
where "Alt" is an alternate function. I would expect a keyboard where the
alternate function is a numeric keypad number. That is Alt+Fn+{Code}.

I don't know if I get you right, but my computer has a keyboard with numeric
keypad. I had another laptop computer before this one and the keyboard was
just like the one in this computer and I always used Fn+Alt+code without any
problem.

The thing is that it work in applications like NotePad or Word Pad without
problem ,the problem is when I try to use it in Word and everytime I write an
e-mail or something in Internet Explorer 6.0 because if for example I write
fn+alt+0241 when I write the number 4 it takes me "back" in the browser.

I will try searching for an updated driver for my keyboard but I think It
won't be available because my computer has only 5 days so I think all the
drivers are up to date.

I will let you know, thanks a lot and please if you find something else let
me know ok?
