Font Sizes increase with each Reply to an email

Greetings Listers. Here's a very odd behaivior we're seeing. In
Entourage 2004, OSX 10.4, as a user replies to an email and the reply
includes all previous emails, after 2 times of the email travelling
back and forth, the font sizes begin to increase on the oldest
(original) included emails. What the? I mean that the original email
is a 12 point Verdana...by the third email, it's 14 point and by the
fourth it's a huge 18 point all on it's own! Two different users are
seeing this and it's driving me up a wall trying to figure it out.
Anyone? Thanks for your time and bandwidth.

What mail client is the other person using?

We are experiencing the same problem in reverse within our organization; font sizes in replies are getting progressively smaller not larger. I am on a Mac running Entourage, and the rest of the organization is running Outlook on PCs. This doesn't appear to be an issue between the PCs, only between Mac and PC.

Hi Bob!

This is a known issue between Entourage 2004 and Outlook but has been
fixed in Entourage 2008.

This problem stems from Entourage 2004 referencing fonts by pixels
rather than points when sending HTML messages. Entourage 2008 now
references fonts by points. Entourage 2004 also had an “adjustment”
calculation that made text larger when viewed on Mac OS X but then
adjusted the size before sending.

That calculation is gone in Entourage 2008, which means similar fonts
from Windows users will often come across appearing smaller on Mac OS X
because of resolution differences between the two platforms. This
results in Entourage users increasing their point sizes for readability
and then sending messages that appear with larger type on Windows. It’s
a Catch 22.

I've added this to my blog post about annoyances fixed in Entourage 2008
<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2008...cts_several_annoying_behaviors_nonexchan.html>.

Hope this helps!

Hello,
I have just upgraded to Office 2008, and now I have the problem of the growing characters in the replies to HTML messages received from PC users. I did not have this problem with Entourage 2004.
Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi again,
in my previous message I forgot to say that the not all characters size grows in the reply, but only certain lines in an unpredictable pattern, while other lines and words keep the original size.

Hey guys, having the same problem. It only seems to happen with mails going to PC users who use outlook, gmail, hotmail or any other client. Basically everything going from osx to PC.

If anyone has any clue how to fix this, please let me know. It looks really unproffesional and i can't go back to microsoft office 04 because it won't read the identity anymore.

Hope to hear from someone shortly,

All the best,

Dunca

Hi Roberto,

It would be a huge help to get a copy of message where the text is growing,
it will enable us to track down what HTML is causing the text to grow.

Feel free to send it to me directly, using the subject above. I suggest you
drag the file to your desktop and archive it, then send the zip file it does
not get changed by any mail servers along the way.

Hello,
I have this problem also - fonts enlarge with each subsequent email - and on some lines the fonts are larger than others. I also have a square symbol that appears at the end of each line where I use the return key. This happens to all my outgoing email, no matter which program the recipient uses. I am using Entourage 10.1.4

I can send a copy of the message if given instrucions.

If I send an email in Georgia font size 10 and paste that same text Pages it shows up as a font size 13?!? So it's not only happening when sending emails to/from PC users, but also within a Mac. How is this possible?

To Hui Nee Chin,

An email with attachment sent to your address bounced back. Do you have another address that I could send this to? I am still having this problem, and it seems like others are too. It is not an Eudora problem but a recent one that occurs with every email I send out - even to myself. Every time I open an email and resend it, the signature enlarges.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Nancy,

I¹m guessing it¹s because the attachment was too large. Did you zip up
multiple email messages? If so, can you try splitting them up and sending
them separately? I know this means extra work :( ...I really appreciate it!

Thank you,
Hui Nee

I have the same problem with font sizes changing. I communicate with another iMac user and we both have Entourage 2008 and notice our emails change fonts with each transfer. We both have iMac intel duo's, Leopard 10.5.2, Entourage 2008 and we use HTML.

Are you folks saying that this problem would go away if we change to Plain Text for our emails??
Thanks in advance.
