form text boxes

When creating the form toolbar, the entry is shown in gray. However, it gets
bigger to accommodate the text being entered into it. This screws up the
rest of the form. Is there any way to "lock" the size of these entry boxes
thus limiting how much text can be entered into them?

Most users put them in borderless table cells of fixed size.

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this

space for an answer or locking the location.
