Format changes...

When I move a presentation from one machine to another very often the text
"layout" changes.
I might have text that just fits in the slide and when I transfer that
presentation to another machine the text won't fit and wraps to a new line
there by throwing any following test out of whack.
Solutions?
Versions are the same.
XP machine to a Win2000 machine.
Thanks

More than likely it's a case of using a font that isn't on the client
machine so it is replaced and causes spacing to be off.

My first guess would be the fonts are different on the two machines. Does
the presentation use a standard Windows font? Try embedding the font in the
presentation and then moving to other computer. If layout remains the same
using the embedded font (from the first computer), then the problem is
simply different versions of the font(s) on each computer.

When you say "different versions" of the fonts.. do you mean the name could
be the same but there might have been a change in the font itself over a
period of time?
Also you mentioned "embedding" the font. I asume that's different the
normal formatting of text?
Thanks!

It could just be that the slide layout is being reapplied to the slides,
which will sometimes screw up your formatting -- if the slide has been
heavily formatted manually.

Or it may be a difference in the slide size. Is one presentation set to 35mm
with the other at On-Screen Show, perhaps?

Unless it is a Microsoft standard font it can have the same name, but be a
slightly different font. Lots of smaller companies recreate fonts so they
can add them to their font collection without the licensing fees from the
"patent" holder company.

To embed fonts in a presentation, go to TOOLS >> OPTIONS >> SAVE tab >>
check EMBED TRUETYPE FONTS. This will only work for TrueType fonts (vs.
postscript or the other type I cannot think of the name of right now).

I've been having the same problem with Word 2000. I created a document on my
computer with a downloaded truetype font. I copied that font onto my
husbands computer but when I open the document the font is different, even
though it has the same name. I did the "Embed true type fonts" in word tools
like you suggested.

You would want to embed the font in PPT tools, not in Word, though.
