Formatting Summary Bars by Level

I am customizing our Gantt Chart View. Is there a way to make the summary
bars for level 1 look different than the summary bars for level 2. In the
Bar Styles Dialogue box, I have a custom Summary Bar for level 1, but then I
have to go to each level 2 summary and change it individually. Is there an
easier way?

Thanks,

Liz

Yes there is a way. It requires taking a few steps.

1) customize the flag1 field to use a formula which will return a true value
if it has outline level 1
IIf([Outline Level]=1,True,False)

2) do the same for a few other flags (2, 3, 4 up to how many levels of
heirarchy you want to bother with

3) Go to format menu / barstyles and create barstyles the way you like and
set the "show for ... tasks" for the first one to "Summary,Flag1", the next
to "Summary,Flag2" and so on.

Hi Liz,

You may customize Gantt bars based upon the results of a custom flag field.
To get you started look at FAQ #31 "Customizing Task Bars" at:

http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm

Use the following formula for the Flag1 field:
IIf([Outline Level]=2,Yes,No)

And make sure you select the "Use Formula" option for Summary Tasks in the
Customize Fields dialog box.

You may then follow the directions on the FAQ to customize your level 2 task
bars as needed.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

OOOPS. I forgot the extra step noted by Jack for the Bar Styles.

So sorry,
