Formatting Summary Tasks on Critical Path

Im surprised to not have found this on a quick search.

I have a plan where I display the critical path in red. I have summary
tasks that I show to my customer and detail beneath them that I use
internally to track more detailed tasks. When I collapse everything, Project
isnt highlighting the summary task as red (critical path). When I expand it,
it shows all the detail tasks bein on critical path. Is there a way to do
this?

Thank you for your time,

Hi Michael,

What I tend to do is to create a specific view, especially when that
particular view is a regular one needed for reports.

I would create a filter that filters out all tasks except summary tasks
(assuming that you only want the summary tasks), then use that filter in the
criteria for a new view.

Now in this view you have created, you can format the bars however you wish
and that format only shows in that view. The default formats remain under
the Gantt view. You can set the "bar styles" globally in the view and it
does not affect the setting in the Gantt view.

I use this regularly to show a high level project report to management but I
have the detail to monitor.

Hope this helps

Regards

Yes, I want the summary tasks to show up red if they are on critical path.

Hi,

The night? What night? It's 11 am here!
Format
Bar Styles
Got o the last line and add a line below as follows
Name Critical Summary
Appearance... select one, probably a solid red bar, but up to you
Show for... Critical, Summary (in Europe Critical;Summary)

OK
That's it.

Just to throw something in the mix. If you create two bars in the bar styles
menu: critical rolled up and non critical rolled up. red and blue for
example. for the critical in the show for part select critical, rolled up and
the non c non critical ,rolled up. in the bar chart hide the traditional
summary bar and tick the show rolled up gantt bars. in the individual bars
(multi select) tick the roll up to summary box. when you minimise the summary
bars it will show all the summary bars and highlight the critical part of the
summary bar. Looks quite good.
