Les,
Unfortunately, you will most likely not be able do test the
functionality of an email form until you publish it. Even then, the
built-in Front Page "Send to> Email Address" may not work whether or
not the server has FP Extensions installed. In fact I will go out on a
limb and predict that it likely will not work. Most (affordable) hosts
are using Unix/Linux based servers running Apache and some variant of
SendMail for their email server whereas the "Send to> Email Address"
feature is designed to work with Windows servers running Microsoft IIS.
Even then, the Windows server would require some back-end configuration
to make the feature work, and you may not (probably will not) have the
required back end access to make it happen. You would likely have to
contact your host to set up the mail feature for your site.
If your host is using Unix/Apache/SendMail, a much better option than
using "Send to>Email Address" is using "Send to other>Custom ISAPI,
NSAPI, CGI, or ASP script", and use something like Form Mail from
Matt's Script Archives (
http://www.scriptarchive.com/formmail.html).
There are other similar mail scripts out there, but I have always had
excellent luck with this one. You would specify the path to the Form
Mail Script using the Form Properties>Options. In general, I have found
it better to specify an absolute path to the FormMail script rather
than a relative path (i.e.:
"
http://www.yourwebserver.com/cgi-bin/formmail.pl" rather than
"cgi-bin/formmail.pl") Make sure to read the tutorial, though,
especially if you are new to using scripts.
Good luck!!
