Formula to compare work with a textfield

Hi all,

I am working on a customization of Project Server, to display the "work" for
a task as it was before an update by a teammember, next to the new value for
the work (because the teammember altered the "remaining work"). I want to
show this in the update sent to the projectmanager, in order to see that the
teammember has done so.
I tried to customize an (enterprise) field for this, but encountered the
problem that you can't fill a new field on assignment level with "work" using
a formula.
So I took an alternative approach, customized a textfield, made shure it is
shown in Project Server, and use a macro or just CTRL+C and CTRL+V to fill
the field on all levels. Field is shown in the Project Server view for
updates and this alternative approach is so far OK
But now I want to customize a flag field to be able to give a clear signal
not only in the update in ProjectServer but in a view in Project 2003 as
well. I try to compare the customized textfield with the "work" field for
this.
Can someone tell me which function I should be using? I tried Int and CStr
but the expression does not evaluate OK.

If someone can tell me as well if my conclusion about not be able filling
"work" directly in a customized field on assignment level is correct or not,
would of course be appreciated very much too. If there is such a trick, then
I can solve my problem with the first route after all, but in this case too I
need a formula for the comparisation with "work".

Thanks in advance,
