Why do I have to click the formula line every time to get the cell to update.
I put in the numbers and the cell with the formula does not update until I
click on the formula line. How do I fix this so it updates automatically?

Probably calc mode is "inadvertently" set to manual
Click Tools > Options > Calculation tab > Check "Automatic" > OK
