Fragmented Outlook.pst file

D

David Couch

I have a number of systems with Outlook 2000. Whenever I
run defrag it indicates that the Outlook.pst file is very
large and very fragmented. The defrag program
(Diskeeper) doesn't defrag that file. Is there a way to
defrag the .pst file??

Keep Outlook closed when running defrag. But since you are using Diskeeper;
why don't you use a boot defrag? Works great! Make sure you've ran a good
defrag of your partition first for best results.

You should "compact" your pst by right clicking Outlook Today or Personal
Folders/Properties/Advanced/Compact pst. This is kinda like defragging and
will improve the performance of your pst.

This will clear unused space created by deleting items. This doesn't solve
the fragmentation of the file over your harddisk.
