Frontpage w/SMTP Server?

Kristen Wagner

Hi,

I'm checking here, having looked at the iis.smtp newsgroup without finding
anything specific to my situation.
I am running FrontPage 2003 and FPE2002 on W2KPro, working on a website
that will be eventually published to a remote server, but for now I am the
remote server. Is it possible to
configuring the FPE to work with my SMTP server to send results of a form to
my email account for testing purposes, even though I am not running a mail
server? My email is with my
ISP (RoadRunner).

Thanks for any help,
Kristen Wagner

Let me add that I have followed the instructions in the KB for configuring
FPE to use my SMTP server, and for configuring my SMTP server to point to my
*actual* SMTP server. However, when I attempt to modify a form's properties
to send results to email, I get an error message indicating that "this form
cannot be formatted to send results via email."

I don't quite understand. You say you want to use your own mail server
but then continues to say that you don't have a mail server. So which is
it?

Sorry if I was unclear. SMTP service is running as part of IIS 5; I want to
use it for the sole purpose of sending form results to email. I am not
running a POP3 server; I use my ISP's mail server for that. My understanding
is that you must point FP to your local SMTP server and that your local SMTP
server must point to your remote SMTP server. Is this correct? If so, I
can't get FP to recognize the configuration settings.

The email address must be within the domain of the web site. So, if your
web is www.myweb.com, the email address must be one @myweb.com

It's not likely you have a domain on your Win2K Pro, other than being a
local host.

There's the rub, then: I do not have a domain. So this will not work until I
configure it for/on the remote server, where the sys admin's email address
is indeed within the domain of his site. Thanks, Tom.

That is correct.
