Frozen File in Publisher 2007 w/ Vista

I opened several files only to find them frozen and unable to edit. When I
tried to ungroup it said the oject was an imported picture. Like the last
question on this subject, I checked to see if the product was activated and
it was. The Pulisher 2007 version is on a brand new HP Pavillion dv9000
laptop. Any suggestions?

Is it a trial version? Even though it was activated there is a time limit if
Office is a trial version. The clue is the brand new laptop...

I don't think so, but how do I find out for sure?

I have also had trouble logging off. It stays on the log off screen
indefinitely. I finally figured out I had to remove the battery to get my
computer to shut down.
Could this have any connection to the software issue?

Mary,

I am running Office Enterprise 2007 (Home use program). I have the original
disk from the install.

Is it only Publisher or do other Office applications have problems? There aren't
too many Knowledge Base articles for Office 2007 yet. I am positive there will
be more.

The program stops responding when you try to open or to save a file in an Office
2002 program, in an Office 2003 program and in an Office 2007 program

Mary,

I opened several documents in both Word & Excel and found nothing unusual.
It seems to be only Publisher documents that can't be edited. I just
discovered that not all documents are frozen, just certain ones. The ones
that are affected were saved in an older version of Publisher, but I don't
know which one.

Do you think reinstalling the software would help?

If you have Norton do the Office plug-in suggestion in the article. Norton can
keep you from opening some older publications.

Turn off the picture display before you try opening the older file, View,
Pictures, Hide pictures. More times than not when an older document can't be
opened it is because of a corrupted graphic. What version are the older
documents? Do they contain WordArt?
Might download the WordArt compatibility utility and see if it helps. It says it
is for 2002 & 03 but it works for 2007 too.

I've had some success with old documents by dragging the file to Publisher
rather than trying to open.

Do you still have your older version. You can load it in a Vista computer,
create a new folder and install Publisher there.
