Gantt automatic layout issue.

Hi,

I create a plan so my tasks are organized by delivrable. When I make a
change in the resource sheet, the layout of the gantt automatically change
(appears to be waterfall or chronological).

Anyone heard of a auto-layout option or sthg like it ?

Hi Nde,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

Well... in Tools/Options/Schedule tab there is an Autolink button which you
would be well advised to de-select. But this only applies when inserting or
moving tasks, As you're referring to resources, I can't think what causes a
change in the layout. Perhaps you could be more specific in your details of
what changes you're observing. What changes are you making in the resource
sheet?

Hi Nde,

Is resource leveling set to automatic? Check Tools > Level Resources. The
only time I have seen changes in the Gantt chart schedule change as to
"waterfall" is when Resource Leveling is set to automatic and Project is
leveling resources as you change assignments.

I am guessing that when you say you make a "change in the resource sheet"
that you are changing the information in the resource name field in the Gantt
chart view?

Hi Mike,

Whichever the change I make in the resource sheet (delte resource, change
the name...) when I go back to the Gantt, the tasks are ordered by dates and
I have a Waterfall layout.

So all the grouping I made is lost. First time I see this issue...really
bizarre.

Resources leveling is set to maual.....

Even if I change the name, the tasks are moved up and down. No change in the
scheduled dates though.

They are just organized by start dates.

Check Project/Sort that it is set to the default ID, Group By is set to No
Group and Filtered by is set to All Tasks. Now change a resource in the
resource sheet and tell us what happens.

Everything is set correctly, no sort, no specific group by, no filter....

Hi Nde,

Well, I'm baffled. You say the project is not sorted except by ID. You
have not applied any custom grouping, resource leveling is set to
manual. Instead of guessing, if the project file is not too sensitive
for you to send, go ahead and email me the file. My email is: passport
6847 at maine.rr.com

Remove the spaces, change the "at" to @
