Gap in connector for text

How do I increase the "gap" in a connector behind text? I prefer not to move
the text about the connector but part of my text is blending with the line.
I'm calling out signal names RX+, RX-, TX+, TX- and the + and - are somewhat
disappearing. I can't seem to find a way to change the spacing, setting,
whatever.

I needed to do this some time ago and found the only to do this was to
insert non-breaking space characters
menu Insert -> Symbol
and it's symbol 00A0 after the ~.

Thanks Paul. That works fine for what I need. I'm also adding one before the
text to balance it out. :)
(Just because it's not functionally correct doesn't mean that it can't look
nice.)

In this case it doesn't have to be functionally correct. I'd like to learn
how but that involves time - something I have very little of.

(I'd be terrible in marketing. I have a nasty habit of telling the truth.)
