Getting full drop down menues & killing the clip

I'm using word 2002. How can I get it to simply SHOW the entire drop
down menu (file, edit, etc) each time I click one instead of those
!%$&##!!! arrows at the bottom you have to click to see all options? I
know I've set this before but I can't recall how. Tried looking at
help, but couldn't find it. Also, is there anyway to COMPLETELY
eliminate that infuriating Cutesy Clip character? Tried "hide the
office assistant", but then when you use help it is re-activated.

Right click the menu bar, select customize, options, check always show full
menu.

Double click the infuriating beast, click options, and uncheck use office
assistant.
