Getting rid of MSN messenger

Hi:

I have a simple question. Unless I need it for outlook (which I do need),
can I get rid of the Windows Messenger. Everytime I load Outlook, the damn
thing goings into my taskbar and doesn't disappear even after I close
Outlook.
