Graphics Conversion Filter error

B

Barb PMO

Persistent error when one of our project managers attempts to use the Copy
Picture to Office Wizard" (Other PM's are ok) Error message reads:

"Project is unable to create c:\[path]\filename.gif

The graphics conversion filter encountered an error. Try one of the following:

Reduce the date range of the selection using the From and To dates.
Check that the path to the file is correct.
Check your network connections.
Free up available memory by closing project, programs, or windows you aren't
using.
Free up some disk space on your computer."

Error also occurs using Report > Copy Picture command.

We have tried all suggestions (reducing date range, file path is correct,
image is being saved locally, no problems with memory or disk space.)

Hello Barb,

The Copy Picture to Office Wizard is a COM add-in and there have been
reports in this newsgroup over time with problems with various add-ins.
You may find that removing and then adding the feature back solves the
problem.

Go to Tools > Customize > Toolbars to display the Customize dialog box.
Click the Commands tab and select Tools from the Categories list on the
left. Scroll the Commands list to find COM Add-Ins... and click and
drag the option to a toolbar. Close the Customize dialog box.

Click the COM Add-Ins button and find the Copy Picture to Office add in.
Note carefully the path listed at the bottom of the dialog box. The
add-in is a file named : CPICOFF.DLL but the path may vary based upon
installation. Try removing and then adding it back in. For additional
details, see FAQ #46 at http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi JulieS,

The user followed the instructionsl, uninstalling and reinstalling the
feature, shutting down and restarting the computer. Tried the export to word
function and it didn't work.

Then the user then followed the additional advice in the link provided (in
internal correspondence
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm#Analysis Toolbar (Project 2000+) )
renaming the "global.mpt" file and restarting project. Tried
202000+the export to word function and it still didn't work.

Hi Barb,

I'm afraid I don't have many other suggestions other than trying a
re-install of Project. Somewhere it sounds as though the graphics
converters have been damaged. I assume the Edit > Copy Picture button
doesn't work either?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

All of the above did not help the user use the "Copy picture..." button,
however we did come up with a work-around as follows:

Select the tasks. Go into edit and select copy picture. This will copy the
gantt chart into the clipboard and then go into Word and click edit and paste
to paste the picture into word.

Hope this helps others.
