Grid and entering data

I have a page with a line drawing of a room That is 4 lines for the wals and
a door in one wall. I turned on the grid. Now I need to enter a x in the grid
square where something is placed within the room
How can I do this?
Or do I need to think of another way
It would be useful to be able to lable the grid lines letters for columns
and numbers for rows and then click in the relevant box to place a cross.
This needs to be allowed for several entries.

Any ideas

In this instance you might do better to create a table with the required
number of rows and columns (set to a uniform height and width). Apply
borders selectively as required. You will be able to type in the table cells
as needed. If you continue to use drawing objects (which will give you more
flexibility in placement and shape), you'll need to insert text boxes where
you want text.
