grinding noise from tower

I recently upgraded hard drive and installed Win XP and
Windows Office 2000. When I go to open a file in Word,
Excel & Powerpoint there is a loud grinding noise that
comes from the tower. How do I get rid of noise? will
noise corrupt files?

Noise is mechanical, software isnt - somethings wrong with yr hardware.
Ensure you have data backups
