Groove Relay client issues

10 Groove 2007 clients (Windows XP Sp2)
1 Groove 2007 Relay (Windows Server 2003 X64 RC2)
1 Groove 2007 Manager (Windows Server 2003 X64 RC2)

We have a Groove 2007 Relay and Manager set up. We are having problems
with our Groove 2007 clients going offline in relation to other clients when
they are not actually offline. And also some clients aren't receiving
workspace updates even though other workstations are.

Looking through the Connection Manager, I see that these clients are
connecting to blugro#relay.groove.microsoft.com, R0##.groove.net, and other
public relays. (where # is some number) My theory is that some of these
clients are connecting to the public relays and some are connecting to the
private relay, which is causing problems of systems not seeing each other.
I had been trying to fool the groove server by modifying the
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file and pointing the
groove.microsoft.com servers at our company Groove Relay. I haven't done
this for the R#.groove.net since there are too many of them!!

Could you please point us to some information somewhere about how to lock
down a groove client so that it only communicates with its local peers and
our internal Groove Relay?

Any help would be very much appreciated. We have invested a ton of money
into this setup and there is so very little public troubleshooting
information, so anything you can provide us would be invaluable!

Thank you
David

Are the Groove accounts that are connecting to blugro managed accounts from
your management server? In order to lock down these Groove accounts, they
will need to managed from a domain on your local management server.

Hi Gregg,

Yes, the accounts are indeed managed from within the Groove 2007 Management
server. The devices they connect to and the client accounts themselves are
all managed from our Groove 2007 Management server sitting on Rackspace.com.
However, when you go into the Communication Manager, and you look at the
Inbound, Outbound, and active network connections, they typically show
connection to devices other than what I want. For example, looking at my
groove network Active Network Connections, I see that I'm actively connected
to dpp://r074.groove.net/.... However there should be no reason for that.
I've seen quite a few of these clients connecting to bluegro for some reason,
and again, there should be no reason for this.

Plus I've had 2.95mb pending to receive from some workspace, but it never
comes down. Its quite frustrating. In the communications manager I
click "Work Offline" and then wait a few secionds and turn it back on again
and work online again, the numbers for upload and download left fluxuates
(even goes to 0kb) but then goes back to what it was. Whats the hangup??

Thank you for any help!

Hi David,

30 Groove 2007 clients (Windows XP Sp2)
Groove Enterprise Services (Groove Management Server on groove.net -
Groove.net- HostedBuild 3.1.1.2376 (3.1, 15) )
Groove Relay Server: grooveDNS://hrsl2.groove.net

I am having identical problems with my Groove environment. The issues
are random and can not be reproduced on my end. Clients on the same
LAN have no problems communicating internally. Remote clients will
appear offline to other clients, can't send or receive messages and
outbound data accumulates. Toggling Work Offline kick starts the
upload/download queues and things are back to normal until the next
time it occurs. This toggle works 90% of the time. Sometimes a
Grooveclean is required. I have opened a case with Groove support but
haven't gotten very far. I can provide you with the troubleshooting
I've done with them so far. I've provided them with a network trace
and process reports from a problematic client and will let you know
what they find.

Hi Mike,
Yes, I would be very happy to hear about anything you find out from
product support. I believe that since the product is new, there would be
bugs in it. However, this is one that is particularlly annoying. Anything
you would find would help! I have a company that relies on Groove and this
is really shaking their faith in the product.
Have a great day!
Thank you for responding!

Hi David,

We are facing the same issues at our company too. In fact when we start
groove, we are not able to see the launchbar on some accounts. Even when we
right click on the groove icon in the system tray we are not able to see any
pop-up window from where we can access the launchbar.

Any feedback from you is most welcome.

Have a nice day.

regards,
Salim.
