GrooveMonitor.exe - StartUp importance

U

uemeulo

After I installed Groove 2007, I noticed that in Registry, under the Key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
a new String Value has been created with the name "GrooveMonitor".
I would like to know if by deleting this value, Groove won't work as it
should.

Hi,

why should you wish to delete an registry entry created during installation?

Hi,

I think that a discussion about why someone would like or not to have as
much control as he can on what is running on his computer, could be out of
this newsgroup's interests. I just sought for an answer in a "technical"
question, that could be proven useful to me.

Hi,

well, if you want to use Groove and keep synchronized with your partners,
then let the groovemonitor run. If you are not interested in Groove,
uninstall it and the groovemonitor.exe will be deleted as well (and of
course) not running anymore.

the groovemonitor is a service utility that tracks groove behavour and
creates reports for error reporting to MS - it really does not get in the way
so though you can remove it and still run groove, i would best leave it there
for groove to call when it needs - it does not always load up and is
triggered by errors in the system

what would be nice would be to discover a UI to it like with the older CSM
utility that let us users see inner processes and errors, though they were
mostly to help with COM tool development.

In my opinion, this reply is USELSS. Groove Support seems very arrogant,
and IS NOT interested in answering the users' question. Rather, he is "take
it or not". I would shy away any product from this company whenever I can.

I also have a problem with GrooveMonitor: It installed when I installed
Office 2007; I have since gone back to Office 2003 (which is much better in
many ways), but GrooveMonitor does not want to dye. If I delete the
appropriate startup line using Msconfig, or hunt and kill in registry, it
keeps reappearing (and pointing to a nonexisting file...).
Any one knows a way to get rid of this arrogance?
Thanks,
GregT

Please, do help me to get rid of GrooveMonitor - if you can:
I am NOT a user of Groove. It installed "by accident" when I tried Office
2007, and did not go away when I uninstall Office 2007. All traces of
Office12 I could find are now deleted from my computer, but the startup line
for GrooveMonitor (pointing to a nonexistent file) reappear in the registry
after I delete it.
Would anyone know what creates it?
Thanks,
GregT

This is incorrect. By virtue of the fact that groovemonitor.exe is located
in hklm\software\mircorosoft\windows\current version\run, it MUST always
"load up". That's where microsoft places programs that run at startup EVERY
time. No, it does not get in the way, unless you consider using over 2mb of
RAM getting in the way.

My question was how to get rid of the GrooveMonitor, not what it does.
Deleting the corresponding entry in Registry does not help - it reappears as
if by magic. I am not a user of groove not any of the monitoring, and I like
to clean my computer of things unnecessar.
The GrooveMonitor.exe first appeared on my computer after I tried a vertion
of Office 2007 which was subsequently uninstalled.
If anyone knows how to kill this pest, please help.
Thank you,
GregT

Why are there always people that want to tell you why you should do or not do
something instead of answering the question of HOW to do... So annoying.
Anyway I was able to remove this from my computer by going into Add/Remove
programs, choosing Office 2007, clicking Change (not remove), and changing
Groove to "Not available." Since you have already removed Office 2007 and
this got left behind, the only way to get rid of it now may be to reinstall
Office, then do what I suggested.

BTW, it used almost 5 meg on my system, added another item to the
right-click menu, and my computer locked up while typing in a forum for my
online class making me lose work (me=angry). It hasn't locked up in many
months, and the most recent change was installing Office 2007. No other
Office app was running, so I suspect this worthless tag-along to be the
culprit.

Fully agree with you on all counts.
I still wonder what is it that keeps adding the (nonexisting)
Groovemonitor.exe to the registry! Probably some Office 2007 relique that
Microscoft did not bother to properly uninstall!

I totally agree with Steve248, it was a very arrogant and snobby remark and i
will not be using this groove software in the near future, as there are many
people who are having problems even after uninstalling the program. Plus, i
find its a really silly name, sounds like someone was trying to be "hip" but
got stuck in the 80's.

Greg,

Simple fix... Download "Autoruns"... just simply google "autoruns" and the
first result is from a microsoft page. Click here, this is a microsoft
approved program. Scroll down and find the download link and save the file
and just run autoruns. Thiss is very similar to regcleaner and other like
utilities. Plus you can run it from a USB Memory Stick or CD or whatever....
it doesn't install into the system at all... just examines it and allows you
to delete or disable items.

Hello

Why we should Remove any Registry entry after a software installation? For
the same reason i remove any self updater, any widget or faster helper in the
Registry. To have a faster Computer. Why is every Software Company adding
something in the Startup!?? To slow down your Computer and to make us go
crazy. After that these Company are selling you software to Optimize your
Pc!! Good Marketing Tactics...

Uemeulo,

What specifically does the GrooveMonitor do? Second, why was this
deemed as important to be added to the startup?

Look, if you guys are 'technical' at all as you put it, you would know that
when you install an application, there are registry keys that are created to
run the app on your pc. Now if you want to use (you installed the Groove
application) the groove application, chances are you dont want to erase the
key that the installation has created.

You pretty much said, "I want to constantly be sharing information using
groove but i dont want it to monitor changes." That doesnt make much sence
to me and im sure when you asked your question, the tech guy was thinking,
you installed it, why dont you want to use it, i guess he just wants to
collect apps on his computer and never use them.

Now granted, you may not use it all the time, BUT, you are in the part of
the registry where startup items are defined, to me, you knew the answer to
your own question...in fact the tech guy was probably wondering if you were
seriouse.

I dont think he was being arrogant, i think he probably answers alot of
question and that was an ID 10 T issue!

If you want to synchronize with your "partners" as he put it then
groovemonitor must be running. After all the name is fairly
obvious....Groove (the app you wanted to use) and Monitor (One that
admonishes, cautions, or reminds) meaning that it is waiting for changes to
allow the user of the program to be updated with whatever your working with.
