GrooveMonitor.exe - StartUp importance

This is incorrect. By virtue of the fact that groovemonitor.exe is located
in hklm\software\mircorosoft\windows\current version\run, it MUST always
"load up". That's where microsoft places programs that run at startup EVERY
time. No, it does not get in the way, unless you consider using over 2mb of
RAM getting in the way.

I think the original question was valid and the Arrogant *hole who answered
it obviously has a vested inyerest in groovemaster.

I found myself here because I had no idea what the application was or did. I
had to read every reply to get an understanding of what it is.
whether or not it can or cannot sit in the background is not the issue,
despite all the MICROSOFT Rhetoric and crap about Vista starting faster like
everything else, its a fantasy and will remain a fantasy while the fill up
the start menu with all this crappy stuff.

All it needed was an explanation to what the app did and how to get take it
out the start menu if you wanted to.

it's no longer in my start menu or in any other part of the computer thanks
to Eraser. thats one less app to slow down the startup.

Excuse me, but you are providing false/inaccurate information. You cannot
uninstall Groove from the 'Add/Remove Programs' menu. More importantly, I
was never asked whether I wanted to install it in the first place (could be
my install version of course, but think other have also been duped). The
only way I could get rid of it was by manually deleting the files, manually
removing it from the Startup, and manually ending the process.

No matter what your intended purpose for this software, it is still
malware!! Malware - software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer
system without the owner's informed consent. (via Wikipedia)

It is actually much simpler than it seams. I googled it and found the solution:

"Hello, this thread is to address the program in Microsoft Office 2007
Enterprise Edition named Groove Monitor. The subject i will talk about is
removing Groove from your PC. There are a lot of inquiries on the Web as to
how can it be disabled or removing the bundled program. when installing
Office 2007 I was aware that Groove had been installed but as time went on I
began to realized that it showed up in System Configuration Utilities startup
tab, but when you stop it from starting some say that it mysteriously
restarts which i had never noticed, which we know you can stop the program
from running at startup through the System Configuration Utility, so i began
looking for solutions as to how I could totally disable Groove, I did a
Google search for the solution but didn't come across a good solution as to
how it could be done.

This is when the solution came to me and this is how to do it, many are
looking for the solution when it is right under there nose, some are looking
for a Groove Monitor entry in Add and Remove which there is no entry because
Groove is bundled into Office, it is as simple as going to (Add and
Remove>Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007>Change (not Remove)>Check the Add or
Remove Features button>Go to the Microsoft Office Groove entry then expand
then check Not Available), there will be a red X placed there, then click
continue, then let the removal process do it's thing and you will no longer
have Groove on your PC."

Groove is a file-sharing utility for sharing Office 2007 files over a
network. GrooveMonitor is the actual process which watches for requests from
remote office installations. Groove is installed by default when you install
Office 2007.

If you don't use this feature (and I don't) then you can safely remove it.
To remove, go to Add/Remove Programs, select the change button next to
Microsoft Office 2007, and select the option to Add or Remove features.
Change the icon next to Microsoft Groove to the one with the red X. Groove
will then be uninstalled and the GrooveMonitor should disappear from your
list of processes after you reboot.

Thanks for the onformative info. Have you found that allowing groove to run
has caused big bites of RAM to be lost???? After it loaded with Office 2007 I
noticed a huge deficit in my computing speed and ability???? Any suggestions?

This may help. Since you cannot remove GrooveMonitor [to my knowledge] the next best thing is to stop it from running so that it cannot send any information. The way to do this is to go to the System Configuration Utility.

Using the RUN box from the START menu, type in MSCONFIG then select the STARTUP tab. Remove the checkmark from the box which is next to GrooveMonitor. Make sure you scroll down if there are more than one user accounts; it tends to add one for each. Deselect all of them and the service will not start when the computer does.

When you restart your computer, there will be a box that says you used the System Configuration Utility. There is a box that you can check to stop that from appearing. It really is there to let you know you stopped something from starting that ordinarily does automatically, so you can change it back if that was not the problem you were having.

Good luck! microsoft = spy

After I installed Groove 2007, I noticed that in Registry, under the Ke
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
a new String Value has been created with the name "GrooveMonitor"
I would like to know if by deleting this value, Groove won't work as it
should.
