Group & ungroup doesnt seem to work in 2003 as 2000. Help!

I used to be able to manipulate clip art etc really quickly using group and
ungroup using Office 2000 - Word, Publisher, Powerpoint - I have been doing
this a long time and would consider myself proficient. Now in 2003 I just
dont seem to be able to select individual items from groups using a quick
click and shift/control. It is so basic but absolutely essential to me.
Please can you suggest any tips that might help? I was using Publisher when
I posted this question but have the same problem in Word and Powerpoint

You are making it way too hard. You can select several segments with shift to
recolor. Ungroup the clip again and select segments to delete. Click the transparent
bounding area and click regroup. If you have deleted the bounding area, select all
and regroup.

Thank you Mary. I know what should happen when I shift and click and how to
ungroup and regroup; I have been doing this forever in Word, Powerpoint and
Publisher of Office 2000, but the problem is that I cant actually select
precisely individual items. Anyway thanks for your response and I will just
have to muddle through and keep on trying. As for the general Office 2003
suite - the printing that used to look exactly like that which I had on the
screen now looks nothing like it did when I had office 2000 - and as for
Business Contact Manager I have completely given up to that. Sorry for the
rant but I am running a business here and yesterday the printing and the
selecting cost me over £150 in lost hours. My clients are not impressed when
I cant make alterations to a dcument which I have been doing for them for the
last three years because the output looks nothing like it does on screen.
