Problems with ungrouping and selecting one item to ungroup

Toody

I have created a flyer in Microsoft Publisher 2003 by using two text box and
adding text. I then inserted a clipart. I have grouped the entire flyer, but
would like to ungroup just the picture, but I am having problems.

I checked the Publisher Help section, which told me to click on the Drawing
toolbar. I could not find the Drawing toolbar, and even looked under View,
Toolbars, and Customize...but found nothing. Then reading a post on this
board, I found that it might be under "Arrange," so I looked there. I found
the group and ungroup commands, but they are "grayed out." I also tried
clicking on the picture while pressing Shift, which was also suggested, but
that only worked once. The other times, the entire group moved when I clicked
on Shift, even though my cursor was on the picture that I wanted to
move/select/ungroup. I even tried double clicking on the picture, which
worked on older versions of Publisher.

What seems to be the problem? I've never had this occur with so much
frustration in older versions of Publisher.

Any help will be appreciated. Publisher instructions are for the birds...No
offense to birds! :)

The picture has to be a .wmf type (vector) image if you want to ungroup it. Be
certain you have separated the image from the text boxes.

When you right click a toolbar, is the Picture toolbar check box not there?
Usually it will automatically appear when you insert a picture. There is Detect
and Repair in the Help menu. Publisher 2003 doesn't have a *Drawing* toolbar.
You can customize your toolbars, right-click a toolbar, click customize,
Commands tab, you can drag any command your toolbar.

In addition to what Mary had to say about the picture, the group and ungroup
options will be grayed out unless you have selected a group or a number of
objects to group. Select any one object in a group and the option to ungroup
will appear. Select two or more individual ungrouped objects on the page and
the group option will be available, as will the grouping icon at the bottom
of the group. I find it easier to use the Ctrl key to select individual
objects to group. Just hold it down as you click on each object and then
click the grouping icon that shows up after you have selected the last
one...easier than going to Arrange > group.

shows another way to select a lot of objects to group and a picture of the
group icon.
