Office 2003 and Publisher 2000

I have a standard edition of Office 2003 with Word, Excel, Outlook and
Powerpoint.

I have recently been supplied with a Publisher 2000 cd which has been taken
of someone else's system due to an upgrade.

I have installed this, but am unable to open any files from Word, and am
getting an error message at 50% about not having enough memory to open the
file.

Thinking that this maybe a compatibility issue, I have tried the Office
update option which seems to have picked up Publisher 2000 as it is saying I
need to install the Office 2000 Service Release. However I am reluctant to do
this without being assured that by doing so I will upset my Office 2003
installation.

The Publisher files have installed in a folder called Office within a
Microsoft Office Folder under Program Files. The same Folder also has a
folder called Office 11 where my Office 2003 files obviously are.

Can I download the Office 2000 SR safely please without affecting my Office
2003 installation, and more importantly, will it resolve the issues I am
having in being unable to open up/insert Word files into Publisher 2000.

Thanks

Most of your problems would be solved if you install Publisher in its own
folder. There were some fixes for Publisher. Sometimes it helps to change the
compatibility, especially if you are running Vista.

If you have Norton disable the Office Plug-in.

Create a text box, right-click, click change text, text file, browse to the Word
document.

Thank you for this. I have reinstalled Publisher in a seperate dedicated
folder and downloaded the Service Release.

However, I am still getting the messages saying that it cannot complete the
import stopping at 50% regardless of file size or type. The message about
lack of memory has gone though. The error message is not informative, just
saying that an an error occured and Publisher cannot import the Text.

I am on Windows XP Pro, not running Norton but McAfee.

Thanks

I'm getting the same error when I try to get text from a Word document (.doc),
however if I save the Word document as a .txt or .rtf file it will come over to
Publisher without any problem. Of course there is format loss, more so with .txt
than .rtf.

This is happening only with Publisher 2000. I am guessing it is because most of
my Word documents are 2002, 03 and 07.
You can select all in a Word document, copy, and paste special into Publisher as
formatting text.
