Grouping / Categorizing resources in ERP

Deborah R

I manage our ERP and am the point person for project proffesional and project
server wihtin my organization. I am looking for the best way to “categorizeâ€
our resources. In other words we would like to be able to divide them into
about 5 groups depending on who they report to. Would this just be a column
I would insert into our ERP and indicate that there? Would I then be able to
sort on that and pull reports using that category (group) as a filter? Also,
if it is possible to group the resources in this way, is sub-categorizing an
option? Hope this makes sense, let me know if you need any more info. THANK
YOU as always for all the help!!

Your need can be addressed very nicely by building an outline code in the
RBS field in the Enterprise Global, and then populating an RBS value for
everyone in your organization in the Enterprise Resource Pool. For example,
you might build a 3-level RBS code such as this:

Corporate
DBA manager
DBA team member
SoftDev manager
SoftDev team member
NetOps manager
NetOps team member
Desktop Apps manager
Desktop Apps team member
ERP manager
ERP team member

Using an RBS outline code such as the above, you would place your executives
at the Corporate level, your managers at the approrpiate manager level (such
as DBA manager), and your team members at the appropriate team member level
(such as DBA team member) in the Enterprise Resource Pool. By doing so, you
would very literally show Project Server "who reports to whom" and you could
then report on this information within a number of places in Project Server,
including the Portfolio Analyzer. Hope this helps.
